Glencoe is located 60 miles west from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area in McLeod County and has been a 4.0 community since 2006. GSL Bus Service is the school transportation service and Glencoe also uses 4.0 for its grounds crew services as well.
Glencoe was the first city to be founded by settlers in McLeod county and now has a growing population of 5,700 people that are characterized as hard-working members of the community. Glencoe-Silver Lake School District (GSL) offers an assortment of extra-cirricular activities that create an opportunity for almost every student. Football and boys & girls track have made many appearances at the state tournament over the years. The visual arts students are brilliant, scoring superior ratings at regional competitions. Band and choir have exceeded expectations performing concerts that attract so many people that the auditorium is standing-room only.
Silver Lake is located 50 miles west of the Twin Cities in McLeod County. It is a smaller town, but has many ameneties that most smaller towns do not such as a police department, fire department and an ambulance service. Silver Lake also has its own newspaper, the Silver Lake Leader. There are many organizations such as the Silver Lake Sportsman's Club, Pola Czesky Days Committee, Crow River Sno Pros Inc., Knights of Columbus and more. There are two elementary schools located in Silver Lake. The other schools are comprised of the Glencoe-Silver Lake towns. Acitivities include: The Bruce Maresh Aquatic Center, Sports Complex, Luce Line Trail access and Music in the Park.
Glencoe-Silver Lake School District is not only committed to their extra-cirricular activities, they also have a team of dedicated staff for their academics as well. GSL is focused on one objective: providing a positive learning environment for their students.
