The city of Mound is surrounded by the picturesque views of Lake Minnetonka.  Some of the fun activities in the summer on Lake Minnetonka include boating, fishing, getting together with friends at Big Island and Lord Fletcher's Old Lake Lodge on The Warf.  Tonka trucks were originated by Mound Metalcraft in 1946.  The logo at that time was an oval, showing the Tonka Toys name above waves, most likely honoring Lake Minnetonka.  Tonka trucks was purchased by Hasbro in 1991.

Students that attend Mound Westonka Public Schools live in Minnetrista, Mound, Spring Park, Navarre, Shorewood, Orono and Independence.  Mound students have been some of the top in the state and for the past 8 consecutive years received "Best in State" Performance on MCAs. Westonka offers Pre-K Spanish, High School Mandarin Chinese, Student Leadership programs, global immersion programs for effective leadership in business, science, archeology, public service and education.  Shirley Hills Primary received the Blue Ribbon Award in 2008 and Hilltop Primary received the Star Tribune Top 100 Award.  Mound Westonka has a strong college placement program and strong community support. The well-known school district has a rigorous curriculum and an array of extra-curricular activities to choose from.

The Minnesota Environmental Agency's branch Project Green Fleet recently helped Westonka Bus Service retrofit their buses with "green" equipment which reduces engine emissions that makes the buses run cleaner and in turn is better for the environment and for the children.
