St. Peter

About St. Peter...

Saints Bus Service is located 65 miles southwest from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area in Nicollet County and has been a 4.0 community since 2007.

St. Peter was originally named Rock Bend from the rock formation at the bend of the Minnesota River, formerly known as the St. Pierre River.  It was renamed St. Peter after a group of businessmen from St. Paul interested in promoting the town formed the St. Peter Company.  People were also wanting St. Peter to become the capitol instead of St. Paul, but it is said that a member of the Senate hid out in the St. Paul Hotel with the bill until the end of the legislative session, when it was too late for the bill to be signed.

St. Peter is home to Gustavus Adolfus College. Gustavus Adolphus College is a highly selective, private, liberal arts college.  It was founded in 1862, and is celebrating its Sesquicentennial (150 years) in the 2011-2012 school year. The college is guided by five core values: community, excellence, faith, justice, and service. Gustavus offers over 100 different special interest groups and organizations, is a member of the NCAA Division III and has 12 men's and 13 women's Intercollegiate athletic programs.

St. Peter School District created a program called Learning Matters.  The program's vision is to inspire the passion for learning and enables all individuals to realize their potential. The goal is to establish an endowment to support different programs throughout the school district such as the Fine Arts, Technology, Student Achievement, Academic Excellence, Technology and more.  Another goal of the Learning Matters program is to raise community awareness for the Foundation.

St. Peter School District serves approximately 2,000 students. This includes the St. Peter Middle/High School, North Intermediate and South Elementary Schools. St. Peter High School has a wide-ranging program that balances between college preparatory, exploratory, the fine arts and vocational course work.  St. Peter offers co-curricular activities such as Fall, Winter and Spring sports, a diverse amount of academic activies and student organization activities such as Ecology and USAA.
